A Message from Bishop Brennan about reopening churches to 100%

I understand that the Governor has opened certain establishments to 100% capacity.  The sad reality, however, is that we are still living in the COVID-19 pandemic and truly do not know when it will end.  Given the recent increase in infections in West Virginia and in much of the country, this is not the right time to abandon protective measures, such as physical distancing by households, along with mask-wearing, washing our hands and sanitizing our churches, that have enabled us to celebrate Masses safely with our congregations since late May of 2020.  I give all the credit to our Catholic people, our clergy and their safety teams, for without their cooperation our excellent record would not be possible.  We must continue to be vigilant and follow the safety protocols that have worked well so far. Please join me in praying that this pandemic may soon fade into history.  If our people will do their part to aid in stopping the transmission of the disease, we will all be able to breathe easier (without masks) and resume more traditional forms of human contact.  Meanwhile, God will give us the strength to endure for a while longer a situation which none of us likes
