Adding St. Paul Parish or School as a beneficiary to a will is a means of providing continuing stewardship, even perpetual stewardship, to the parish community. Bequests can be given for the general use of the parish or for the Memorial Endowment where the funds are added to the larger endowment pool.

Bequests to the Parish should be made out to:

“The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston for the __________(insert specific use; such as ‘general support’ or ‘memorial endowment’______ of Saint Paul Parish, Weirton, West Virginia.”

“The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston for the __________(insert specific use; such as ‘general support’ or ‘scholarship endowment’______ of Saint Paul Grade School, Weirton, West Virginia.”

The Catholic Sharing Appeal is an annual project to raise funds that are jointly shared by the parish and the diocese. The diocese uses its share to fund Catholic Charities, Catholic School, Communications and other ministries. St. Paul Parish adds its share to our Memorial Endowment to provide a sure source of funding for future liturgical needs in our worship space.

More information on the diocesan campaign can be found at: The Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston Catholic Sharing Appeal

Parish Memorial Endowment

Lasting gifts may be given in honor of loved ones who have died or in honor living friends and family (anniversaries, birthdays, special occasions) by making a contribution of any amount to the Parish Memorial Endowment.  This designated fund is held in the West Virginia Catholic Foundation where the principal is never spent; only interest may be used for liturgical items for the church (e.g., vestments, vessels, art work and music resources.  Each month all those memorialized in the Endowment are remembered as a weekend mass intention.  Gifts can be sent to the parish office or placed in the weekly collection baskets.  Local funeral homes will also arrange such memorial gifts.

Memoral donations of $500 or more will also provide a leaf or other symbolic remebrance on the Tree of Life in the back of the Church.

The Parish currently has two established scholarship funds in the West Virginia Catholic Foundation to support families with children in St. Paul School.

  • The James White Scholarship was established by his family and provides an annual scholarship for a student at St. Paul School.
  • The Fr. Tom Schiffer Scholarship Fund was established by St. Paul Parish in loving memory of our former pastor who died in 2008.  Additional funds maybe added to this scholarship at any time.  Call the parish office for more information.

Additional named scholarships for St. Paul Grade School or Madonna High School can be established in the West Virginia Catholic Foundation for an initial gift of $5000.  Please contact the parish office for details.

St. Paul School is also seeking endowments of faculty positions to enable us to offer competitive salaries to our teachers.  These endowments would also be held in the West Virginia Catholic Foundation where the principal is not available to the school, the parish or the diocese.  Only the annual return on the investment would be used for supplementing salaries.  These endowments would be an appropriate way to remember a faculty or family member who had a particular impact on the donor’s life.  Named endowments begin at the $100,000 level (though this amount may be pledged over several years.)  Again, please call the parish office for more details or contact the Development Director at the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston  (304-233-0880 or dwc.org).
